Holiday Passion for the Cannabis Curious

Read time: 3:32 mins

Did you know you could turn up the heat in your bedroom this holiday season just by adding a little cannabis? As we near the end of a long and stressful year, why not try to end it on a pleasurable note with your special someone?

After all, cannabis has a reputation of heightening your senses and letting you lose yourself in the moment, and who doesn’t want that? If you and your partner are cannabis curious, the last month of 2020 may be the right time to bring some extra heat to the cold December nights. Enticing? Three Wells, like always, is here to be your guide and bring some holiday passion for the cannabis curious.

“Cannabis and its sexual effects are a hot topic,” says Three Wells Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Deborah Malka, “with some proponents claiming aphrodisiac-like effects.”

“What we know to be true is that cannabinoids and endocannabinoids interact with the hormones and neurotransmitters that affect sexual behavior, and the influence of cannabis on sexual behavior and arousability is thought to be dose-dependent in both men and women”, Malka says. One survey of 373 women found that the use of cannabis products before sexual activity increased sex drive and decreased pain.*

“The consumer’s familiarity with cannabis is important,” Malka said. “If a new user, even using small amounts of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) – the part of cannabis responsible for most of the euphoric effects that a person feels when consuming traditional cannabis – it could cause uncomfortable disorienting effects. New users should consider a product higher in CBD content for relaxation. The actions of cannabis as an aphrodisiac is not an area that is easily generalized and is a truly individualized response.”

Choosing the Right Delivery Method

  • Lubricant – Cannabis-infused lubricants are gaining in popularity. It is said that they can relax the blood vessels which support arousal and enhance sensation.
  • Tinctures Tinctures provide one of the best ways to preserve and concentrate an herbal medicine, and deliver multiple doses. They take effect in 15-30 minutes and last 4-6 hours. Unlike edibles, they will produce a consistent and predictable effect.
  • Edibles – If we’re talking about using cannabis in the bedroom, we can’t think of a more sensual food than chocolates. Our brand partners at Three Wells offer a wide variety of delicious chocolate edibles that your significant other may enjoy. Edibles can take anywhere from 30-120 minutes to take effect.
  • Smoking Smoking cannabis, as you likely know, is the traditional consumption methodEasy to use, with a quick onset. The effects come on in less than three minutes and can last anywhere from 1-3 hours.
  • Vaping Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling an aerosol, often referred to as vapor, which is produced by a vape pen or similar device. The term is used because vape pens do not produce smoke, but rather an aerosol that actually consists of fine particles. Similar to smoking, it will take effect in 1-3 minutes and lasts 1-3 hours, making dosing very easy. Vaping is convenient and has little to no odor.

There are a number of products out there, but we at Three Wells enjoy Love Potion No. 7 from Humboldt Apothecary, a tincture with a delicious blend of warming herbs and spices that supports a healthy libido and can be used as a personal lubricant.

Choosing the Right Strain

“Effects are highly dependent upon the strain – whether it is relaxing or stimulating,” Malka said.

In general, Indica strains that provide deep body relaxation and increase sensitivity. On the other hand, Sativa strains may provide an energy boost.

“For most people, a stimulating strain might increase anxiety and be counterproductive,” Malka said. “The presence of myrcene and linalool, 2 terpenes that are both calming and have muscle relaxant properties, would be most useful. These are more commonly known as indica types.”

For the best of both worlds, you could consider a Hybrid such as Sour Diesel, Kali Dog or Flo. Go to your dispensary and don’t be shy or embarrassed about asking the sales person/budtender for their recommendations. Chances are they have knowledge from personal experience.

If you’re curious about cannabis unlocking a deeper level of intimacy and bonding with your romantic partner, perhaps it’s time to explore the Three Wells products page and judge the results for yourself.
